It can drive : 4 bi-directional DC motors with 8-bit speed selection 2 stepper motors unipolar or bipolar with single coil, double coil, interleaved or micro-stepping. As the shield comes with two LD motor driver chipsets, that means it can individually drive up to four DC motors making it ideal for building four-wheel robot platforms. The shield offers total 4 H-Bridges and each H-bridge can deliver up to 0. Pin 1 and pin 9, for being able to drive the motor, the pin 1 and 9 need to be high. For driving the motor with left H-bridge you need to enable pin 1 to high. And for right H-Bridge you need to make the pin 9 to high. If anyone of the either pin1 or pin9 goes low then the motor in the corresponding section will suspend working.
